In the 1980's, Greg moved to California to become an actor. When the writer's strike hit, Greg was forced to find other work. Starving and broke, Greg had no idea that one business card would lead him to becoming "the most popular, most decorated male p*rn star of all time.

He said it well... "if I can change my heart, anybody can." Thanks for sharing your story.

Filipino Actress Jewel Mische-Kurzer on Making a Long Distance Relationship Work

Filipino actress / celebrity Jewel Mische, whom I briefly featured on this blog for her vow of abstinence before marriage is now married to her American husband Allister Kurzer (they've been married for a year). I'm still impressed with their maturity and openness to share their faith to the Philippine entertainment media. Check out their advice to other couples in long distance relationships - starting at the 1.30 min mark of the video. They definitely got it right! I wish this couple all the best in their marriage. Happy Soldier! Black Friday Shopping with My Wife

Call me the "Black Friday man," dad or husband! I did it! I made it through Black Friday shopping with my wife. It was a mission I was not willing to accept, but as loving husband who wants to serve his wife, I did anyway. I drove the van, fought for parking spaces, stood in line in her behalf, held her purse and carried shopping bags. To prevent myself from snapping, I kept myself entertained by documenting my experiences during Black Friday 2015 on Instagram. Read below... Smile soldier!

A True Love Story In Pictures You Won’t Easily Forget

I want to share this story with you. Their photos easily tell the entire story. Taylor and Danielle, two young people deeply in love and demonstrates the Christian definition of "true love." True love is NOT  a feeling. It's not about being happy, or having your needs met. True love is all about self-sacrifice and what you can give to your partner.

Marriage is NOT For You

I love this post from blogger Seth Adam Smith. Something worth reading!

Seth is married to his wife Kim for a year and a half, but he concluded that married life isn't for him. Why? Because he realized that, marriage is about the person you married.

One doesn't get married to make him or herself happy - you marry to make someone else happy. Your marriage isn’t for yourself, you're marrying for a family, for your future children.

President Aquino Rejects Divorce in the Philippines

President Noynoy said divorce is a no-no and a Las-Vegas type marraige- married in the morning and divorce in the afternoon has no place in the Philippines. He made this remark while her very own sister, controversial actress and TV host Kris Aquino is going through a very public separation with husband James Yap. (Complete article embedded below or click here. BTW - please pardon the image I chose for this blog post I just thought its humorous).

Marriage Contract Expiration Date: Deal or No Deal?

GMA 7 news reported that Filipino feminist group, 1-ABAAM were proposing a 10-year expiration date on marriage contracts and failure to extend the contract automatically makes the marriage null and void (click here to see video report). Though I know the effort is a long shot from ever happening, the subject can still be considered alarming since proponents and their liberal agenda made it to prime time local news.

Adapting from an article I read, the assault on marriage  "uses the rhetoric and language" of choice and the marketplace to make it sound attractive and convenient to everyone. The market rhetoric is a subtle disguise on a group's extreme liberal agenda and their goal to create the perfect independent woman. This worldview is deceptive and dangerous to Filipino families.

What do you think will happen if marriage simply become a "contract" and stopped being a holy matrimony? Its anything goes! Both parties are free to negotiate and demand terms of their contract. Instead of the solemn vow made before God and the community, it becomes a "business deal" where the main rule is to get what I want and get the best end of the deal. It will weaken important values such as generosity and self-sacrifice essential to a healthy family. Because it will encourage selfish actions and destroy families, expiration dates on marriage contracts is a "NO DEAL!"

Are there more Filipina women looking for a spouse overseas than local Filipino men wanting to marry them?

Hope the title doesn't sound insensitive, but its the first question that came to my mind when I did a Google search on "marriage" and "Philippines." Search results were primarily on mail-order-brides, foreign fiance visas and international match-making agencies. I know a simple online search is insufficient and I don't know any reports or statistics to support my initial inquiry but if my assumption were true, then it's a heartbreaking reality that many Filipina face in their legitimate search for a mate. Let's just hope Im wrong.

Coming Soon to a Theater Near You: Fireproof Part 2?

Christian News reports a followup to the movie Fireproof will explore the topic of fatherhood. Fireproof starred Kirk Cameron as a firefighter. The 2008 independent movie was produced by Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georiga which plans to start filming Courageous this spring. It should hit theaters a year later, telling the story of four fathers in law enforcement who go through a tragedy together. Fireproof made more than $33 million on a budget of about half-a-million. The movie had limited screening in the Philippines but was a big hit to those who saw it specially in the evangelical christian community. As I said in my previous post about the movie, I think its one of the best dramas I've seen recently and meets the common "melo-dramatic-tear-jerking" formula Filipinos never tires to see on TV and movies everyday. Will Courageous meet the same expectation? Abangan na lang ang susunod na kabanata.

True Love Waits Impacts the Philippines

This article caught my attention today. True Love Waits, an abstinence before marriage ministry is making significant impact to Filipino youth. They say the ministry have reached out to almost 2,000 Filipino students and have reported 432 profession of faith to Christ recently.

This is great news and a good reminder that we need more ministies like TLW in the Philippines (see Basta Love Life and Lambat) that knows the importance of teaching Filipinos develop a Christian worlview in all aspect of their lives.

A sobering report showed that of 1.7 million babies born in 2004, almost 8 percent were born to mothers aged 15-19 or almost 30% of Filipino women become mothers before reaching their 21st birthday. In 2000, young mothers gave birth to 818,000 babies a ratio of 1 of every 10 babies born to a teenage mother. The next census will be in 2010 and its not too late for ministries and the local church to step up its game to teach young Filipinos how to live their love lives according to God's principles and stop or at least slow down the growing number of teen pregnancies.

Probably the Best Place to Find Your True Love

Thought this is a good post to share on Valentines Day. Colleague and fellow FilAm and The Point blogger Angelise Anderson shares her thoughts on a best place to find your true love.

Young people today, of whom I am one, seem to have this focused goal of finding "the one." It makes sense, since most of our parents and grandparents were already married by our age. But I believe that sometimes the obsession can sidetrack us from really fully living. Funny too, because in that place of fully living, one is not only fulfilled, but also will meet those with common passions.

Fox 5 anchor Laura Evans met her husband, Mike Manatos, at the 2002 Make-a-Wish Foundation triathlon. A year later, they were married. Evans told the Washington Times that she recommends doing charity work as a means to romance because "you can meet like-minded people, have meaningful conversations, and it's not over a beer."

Too many singles, especially here in the city, spend their weekends clubbing, many hoping to meet someone. Dating coach Jess McCann says that's half the problem with meeting people at bars: "You don't know what to say." How do you strike up a conversation with a complete stranger, and how -- even more difficult -- do you luck-out on introducing yourself to someone who actually has the same calling and passions?

It's time for young people of this generation to step out of the traditional dating box and find their purpose in a world that desperately needs their helping hands.

John and Staci Eldredge, in the bestselling book Captivating, write, "There is much life saving that needs to be done yet, and someone needs to do it. We must live this out, no matter where we are." One should not be sitting around waiting, but working toward a goal, pouring one's life out for the purpose of helping the world in some form or fashion. As Frederick Buechner's wise words remind us, "The place that God calls us is that place where the world's deep hunger and our deep desire meet."

A word to the wise on getting involved: Pick a way to get involved that you are actually passionate about. Cathy Alter, author of Up for Renewal: What Magazines Taught Me About Love, Sex, and Starting Over, reminds her readers, "If you are doing things that are charitable...you will attract people into your life with the same values. The most important thing is to do things you like to do. Don't do things because you think you will attract a man."
So if you are, or you know someone who is, looking for love -- and I know most of us know somebody -- please encourage them to start living their lives out for a cause, and wait to see God open doors to friendships and relationships that will not only change their lives, but the communities around them.
